Short Notes on Structure of Optical Fiber Connectors
Most optical fiber connectors have some common elements shown in the figure below:
SMA Connector![]() The SMA connector is the classic connector for multimode and single mode fibers. The fiber is inserted into a precisely matching ferrule and epoxied in place. The fiber tip is polished along with the end of the mounting barrel. FC ConnectorThe FC connector is a NTT (Nippon Telephone and Telegraph) design for single mode fiber. This is a spring-loaded connector with screw-on nut. It uses a metal ferrule to align the fiber. |
